Robert Arguelles, Psy.D.

I use an eclectic approach to therapy, integrating psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused interventions, and mindfulness-based approaches to meet each client’s unique needs. I work with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions, work and school-related stressors, and other challenges that may affect their overall mental health and well-being.

I also have a special interest in supporting clients around work-life balance, relationship challenges, and the unique pressures that can come with careers in the tech industry. Through my work in employee assistance settings, including Optum Health and UCSF’s Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, I’ve had the opportunity to support individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds as they manage burnout, stress, and the ongoing challenge of balancing personal and professional responsibilities.

My clinical experience also includes working at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Gatos in both the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), where I worked with clients facing a range of more acute mental health concerns. That experience deepened my appreciation for the resilience people bring to therapy, even in the midst of overwhelming circumstances, and strengthened my commitment to helping clients build practical tools while also creating space for deeper healing and self-understanding.

I earned both my Master’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California, and completed my postdoctoral training at UCSF in San Francisco. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brooklyn College in New York.
