Liz Walker, LMFT
My approach to therapy is rooted in attachment theory and the belief that “childhood is a blueprint for life.” I often think about how early experiences shape the way we relate to ourselves and others later on. In our work together, I focus on gently moving from avoidance toward awareness, creating space to stay present with your experience rather than overwhelmed by it. I believe that when we can do this, a deeper sense of peace and well-being becomes possible over time.
I draw from psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory based ideology, and DBT skills, always tailoring the process to what feels most helpful and supportive for each person I work with.
My specialties include anxiety, depression, trauma (both chronic and acute), substance use disorder, and supporting people through life transitions. I also have a deep interest in working with mothers during pregnancy, postpartum, and early child development, as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community.
My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t a straight line. I returned to school in my late 30s, starting at a community college in Oakland before going on to Mills College, where I earned a BA in Psychology and an MA in Infant Mental Health with a focus on development across the lifespan. I later attended The Wright Institute in Berkeley, where I completed my MA in Counseling.
Outside of my work, I feel most grounded near the beach or on walks with my dog.
