Anna Tri, LCSW

I view therapy as a safe, compassionate space where individuals can collaborate with their therapist to meet their unique needs. Within therapy, clients have the opportunity to develop and practice skills to manage stress, build insight into their sense of self, and understand their triggers and strengths to navigate life’s challenges more effectively. Therapy is also a place to explore how the external environment influences one’s experiences and identify strategies that foster self-empowerment and self-advocacy. While I, as the therapist, provide support and introduce tools and perspectives, I firmly believe that clients are the experts of their own lives. My aim is to work together to find the therapeutic approaches that align best with each client’s goals and preferences.

My approach incorporates strengths-based, client-centered, and insight-oriented methods. I draw from systems theory and the person-in-environment perspective to help clients build self-awareness and understand their role within their relationships, communities, cultural upbringing, and broader environment. I also use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support clients in challenging negative thought patterns, practicing acceptance, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and navigating stress. Additionally, I integrate Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) to help clients address interpersonal conflicts and stress.

I earned my BA in Psychology and Communications from UC Davis and an MSW (Master of Social Welfare) from UCLA. My professional experience includes extensive work in community mental health, a crisis residential facility, and a trans-affirming healthcare setting, serving clients of diverse ages, from teenagers to seniors. As a bilingual & bicultural Vietnamese American woman from a family of immigrants and refugees, I always aim to practice cultural humility and to learn from my clients in order to find the approach that they find best for them.

Beyond therapy, I enjoy spending time in nature, whether taking walks, hiking among trees, or being near the ocean. I value community and cherish time spent with loved ones, while I also find solace in quiet moments spent reading.
