Brett Hamilton, RPA
I’m so glad you’re here. Why therapy? Many of us move through life without recognizing that we can’t survive without help and support. Then something happens; perhaps a heart break, a loss, a previously unknown sadness or fear, and nothing you do on your own seems to help.
My approach is Integrative. I draw on the wisdom from many traditions, with a bend toward the Humanistic Domain of Psychology. Like Bruce Lee reminds us, “Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.” More important than theory and methodology to me, I am committed to helping you get what you need through our therapeutic relationship. I want you to meet your goals and perhaps help you make deeper meaning of this mysterious walk from birth to death. I aim to help reduce the intensity of what is troubling you now, and over the course of our work together help you better understand what may be at the root of it.
I am passionate about working with men and Men’s Issues. Whether it be addiction, grief, depression, anxiety, sex, gambling, internet and beyond, these experiences are all welcome with me. I know how much harder it can be for some men to find their way to the therapy room.
I have tremendous respect for each small and significant step it takes to ask for help. Perhaps typing “therapists near me” into a Google search is the first one. If that search has led you to me, I want you to know I’m proud of you and I invite you to take the next small and significant step to pick up the phone or write the email. I would be honored to work with you.
Two quotes that guide me in life and practice:
“Frankly there isn’t anyone you couldn’t learn to love once you’ve heard their story.” – Fred Rogers (via Mary Lou Kownacki)
“Nothing human is alien to me.” – Terrence
I hold a master’s degree in psychology from Meridian University and am a Registered Psychological Associate (PSB94029424) with the California Board of Psychology, practicing under the direct supervision of Dr. Matthew Metzger (PSY25425). I am in the final stages of completing my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology.
When not working, studying or spending time with family, you may find me on the trails, telling bad jokes, or on the yoga mat.
